Mary Coleman is executive director at City of Promise, a Charlottesville nonprofit that seeks to end generational poverty through education. Raised in the Lutheran Church, Mary was introduced to conservative evangelicalism and the charismatic movement at the age of 19. After 20 years of living under very narrow interpretations of scripture, personal tragedy caused her to question those legalistic frameworks.
The mother of seven and grandmother of nine, Mary places high priority on spending time with her large family. She writes regularly on faith, family, and race relations on her blog www.marybutlercoleman.com.
