Ian serves as the VP of Aggregation at Sun Tribe, where his team is building new technology to make renewable energy credit markets accessible to a rapidly growing population of solar system owners. Ian is an entrepreneur, technologist, and all-around creature of building and growing things. He studied at UVA (Systems Engineering ’04 and MBA ’09) and has primarily worked out of Charlottesville in the last 20 years in early and growth-stage ventures. Also, he’s worked in education, having served as Exec Director of Forge (formerly HackCville) and created a global network around entrepreneurship research known as Effectuation in collaboration with the Batten Institute at Darden. A believer in career sabbaticals, Ian has twice taken significant time away from staring at screens to pursue hobbies full-time. During the first from 2006-2009, he raced bikes professionally on two North American UCI road teams, with impressive palmarès. The second, from 2018-2019, he built a house, doing everything from tying rebar to finish carpentry. Ian and his family reside in Charlottesville and love being a part of this vibrant community.
