Richard lives in Lexington-Fayette County, Kentucky, and has worked on civic health and community development in Kentucky for over a decade. He is the Founder and Executive Director of CivicLex, a nonprofit organization that builds civic knowledge and capacity for residents, stitches together new relationships, and builds more responsive civic institutions. He is also a founding Steering Committee member of the Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange. Since 2014, this work has been featured in Bloomberg, NextCity, New York Times, New America, the Wall Street Journal, and more. Richard is an Ashoka Fellow, and has served as a fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Bertelsmann Foundation. He serves on the boards of LION Publishers and the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Also a performing and teaching artist, Richard has a degree in Double Bass performance from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati.
