About me
Becky is a Michigan-born, South Florida native who relocated to Charlottesville almost 20 yrs ago. Prior to working in the nonprofit world, she was an educator- former JMU adjunct professor, elementary school teacher, and reading specialist, having taught for 17 years- in Charlottesville City Schools since 2005. She lives with her husband, 10yo, and two crazy, adorable rescue dogs & cat. She met Kari, International Neighbors' CEO & founder when they were both teaching at Greenbrier Elementary from 2005 to 2014. During that time, she and Kari formed a special bond with their similar passions for education, advocacy, and community outreach- especially for children and families in Charlottesville needing support to meet basic needs in order to achieve success. She served on the very first IN board from 2015-2017, and is proud that her husband Chad's IN logo design is still IN's trademark! Becky has volunteered with IN as a board member, in event planning, and through grocery delivery with her son, Calvin (who was just a toddler at the time!), and has also volunteered and worked with other local nonprofits- Junior League of Charlottesville, Music Resource Center, City of Promise, and Burnley-Moran PTO. She is thrilled to be able to apply her organizational and people skills to this role as Director of Programs...all while helping to equip and empower refugees and SIVs with the skills & networks to thrive here in their new home AND learning about all the cultures and customs our clients and families bring to enrich the Charlottesville community!
