About me
Amanda Nelsen practices and teaches art creation. Her work utilizes ubiquitous materials to reimagine the aesthetics of convenience, respond to our consumer-laden status quo, and explore the care we must take to sustain all living beings. She involves others in the creative process and employs the traditions of printmaking, bookbinding, and sculpture in her work, using all sorts of materials to express ideas and inspire change. She is a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant recipient, and her work has been exhibited widely.
At UVA, she teaches the Write Climate courses wherein students design a collective visual expression to highlight changes needed for a sustainable future. Amanda is a trained bookbinder practicing in Charlottesville and enjoys biking, baking, and dancing.
