About me
The Front Porch fosters a community of music lovers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds in Charlottesville. Our mission is to connect everyone through music. We work hard to make music accessible, inclusive, and affordable for all because we believe that music is a profound gathering force that can change the course of a life, a neighborhood, and an entire community.
The Front Porch’s music school offers private and group music classes to people of all ages and abilities, helping deepen musical skills. Over 500 students join us each week. Classes are accessible and scholarships are available to anyone with demonstrated need. Through weekly jam sessions and free events, we encourage students to experience the joy of playing music together. Spring Break and summer camps encourage young music makers to sing, play, dance, and create. We host concerts in our intimate venue space on the Downtown Mall and partner with the Rivanna River Company for our summer concert series. We prioritize booking a diverse slate of artists and genres.
The Front Porch’s free community programming brings music classes to more than 650 preschool and elementary students each week through meaningful partnerships with Head Start, Barrett ELC, the YMCA ELC, Albemarle County Bright Stars, and area Boys & Girls Clubs. We also sing with seniors in memory care, JABA’s respite center participants, and Hospice of the Piedmont patients.
