About me
Capoeira(Cah-po-ay-ra), most often recognized by its fluid, dance-like movements, is an Afro-Brazilian martial art disguised as dance developed by Angolan slaves in Brazil during the colonial period. Because slaves were not permitted to arm themselves and fight, capoeira allowed them to train physically while giving the impression that they were entertaining themselves with music and fun. Over time, the art of capoeira evolved from its traditional roots into a formal martial art that can now be seen practiced all over the world.
Capoeira Resistência was founded with the goal of sharing the beautifully rich art of Capoeira with the community. We believe that Capoeira is about making friends, stimulating personal development physically and mentally as well as uplifting the spirit. The Cville branch currently trains in Fry’s Spring with gratitude to the Beach Club for the utilization of their space.
